Analysis of the CYP1A1 gene polymorphism was carried out using the PCR-RFLP (Polymerase Chain-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism) method followed by gel electrophoresis.

Results

The results of this study showed that the Cyp1A1 (3801TC) gene polymorphism in squamous cell carcinoma was found with a frequency of 50% heterozygotted T/C, 36% Wild-Type T/T, and 14% Homozygot C/C. While in cervical adenocarcinoma, 60% heterozygot T/C and 40% Wild-Type T/T are found. For the Cyp1A1 (ILE462val) gene polymorphism, 97.2% heterozygotes of ile/Val and 2.8% Homozygot Val/Val are found in squamous cell carcinoma. In cervical adenocarcinoma, the entire sample shows heterozygotes ile/valal (100%).

Discussion

The results of this study indicate that the CYP1A1 (3801TC and ILE462val) gene polymorphism is more often found in the form of heterozygotes T/C and Ile/Val in both types of cervical cancer. This heterozygous polymorphism may be associated with an increase in the activity of the CYP1A1 enzyme, which can increase carcinogenic metabolism and increase the risk of development of cervical cancer.
