Introduction

As a Campus Da'wah activist (ADK), one of the most significant challenges they face is navigating the complex emotions that arise when they want to express love. In the early adult phase, ADKs are tasked with developing a sense of love and encouragement to express it, but Islamic teachings forbid open love relations, which can lead to adultery. This creates an inner conflict that ADKs must resolve. This research aims to investigate the emotional regulatory strategy applied by ADKs in dealing with this conflict.

Theoretical Background

Emotional regulation is a crucial aspect of human development, particularly in the early adult phase. ADKs, as individuals who are actively involved in da'wah activities, are required to implement Islamic rules in their daily lives. This can lead to a sense of inner conflict when they want to express love. The concept of emotional regulation is closely related to the idea of self-regulation, which involves the ability to control and manage one's emotions.

Methodology

This research uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological model. The respondents involved were three ADKs who had or were feeling love in the same da'wah environment, actively followed Halaqoh, and had undergone the cadre process. The results showed that the three respondents implemented all existing emotional regulatory strategies, but the behavior shown was not always similar. This difference is influenced by individual goals, cognitive complexity, and each motivation in carrying out emotional regulations. Of the five emotional regulatory strategies identified by Gross, the most effective strategy in producing positive emotions is attentional deployment, namely by increasing the routine of worship. This study also found that emotional regulatory strategies are closely related to individual characteristics, defense mechanisms (defense mechanism), and social support.
