Introduction

In the realm of cosmetics, moisturizers play a vital role in hydrating the skin, reducing water evaporation, and attracting moisture from the air. Among various moisturizers, jojoba oil, derived from the seeds of the simmondsia chinensis plant, has gained significant attention due to its rich content of vitamin E, vitamin B complexes, and fatty acids such as palmitic acid, palmitoleic, stearic, and oleic. The presence of these nutrients makes jojoba oil an excellent ingredient for maintaining skin moisture. On the other hand, nanocrim is a cutting-edge delivery system technology that accelerates the absorption of active substances due to its extremely small size. This study aims to formulate stable nanocrim preparations containing jojoba oil and evaluate their moisturizing properties.

Research Purposes

The primary objective of this study is to formulate stable nanocrim preparations that meet physical quality standards and compare their moisturizing properties with cream preparations containing jojoba oil. By achieving this goal, we can determine the efficacy of nanocrim as a delivery system for jojoba oil and its potential as a moisturizer.

Methodology

To formulate the nanocrim preparations, we used high stirring methods and tween 80 as surfactants. The concentration of jojoba oil in the preparations was varied at 2.5% (F1), 5% (F2), and 7.5% (F3). The quality of the preparations was tested through stability testing at room temperature, cyclic tests, homogeneity, emulsion type, pH, scatter power, viscosity, centrifugation, transmittance, surface tension, and particle size. Additionally, irritation testing and comparison of the effectiveness of nanocrim moisturizing jojoba oil with cream containing jojoba oil were conducted.

Research Results

The results of this study showed that the resulting nanocrim preparations were yellow and thick, stable organoleptically in terms of aroma, shape, and color at room temperature for 12 weeks. The preparations were also stable in cyclic testing and centrifugation. The particle size of the nanocrim preparations obtained was F1 118.15 Nm, F2 141.39 Nm, and F3 160.23 Nm, which falls within the nanocrim range of 20 to 500 nm. The quality testing results revealed that the nanocrim preparations were homogeneous, met the criteria for pH, viscosity, spread power, and were classified as oil-in-water emulsions. In transmittance testing, both nanocrim and cream preparations showed a percentage value between 90-100%, with a clear and transparent visual display. The measurement of surface tension obtained ranges from 35.6 dyne/cm to 47.4 dyne/cm.

Conclusion

The results of this study demonstrate that jojoba oil can be formulated in nanocrim as a moisturizer, and nanocrim containing 7.5% of jojoba oil shows better moisturizing activities in increasing water content compared to 2.5%, 5%, and 7.5% cream concentrations. This is attributed to the smaller particle size of the nanocrim, which allows for more efficient absorption. With these findings, nanocrim jojoba oil emerges as an interesting alternative for effective and efficient skin care.
