Introduction

The world is shifting towards renewable energy sources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and mitigate climate change. Biodiesel production from jatropha oil (Jatropha curcas) is an important step towards achieving this goal. Jatropha oil is a non-edible oil that can be used as a feedstock for biodiesel production. This study focuses on the effect of variations in the concentration of polystyrene sulfonic acid catalyst (PSS) on the physical properties of biodiesel produced from jatropha oil.

Methodology

Optimizing the transesterification process with adjusting the catalyst concentration and reaction time can increase the efficiency and quality of the biodiesel produced. The use of a 4% PSS catalyst produced a higher methyl ester conversion and better physical properties compared to the use of 1% catalyst.
