Introduction

In today's fast-paced and competitive business environment, organizations are constantly seeking ways to improve employee job satisfaction and performance. One of the key factors that contribute to employee job satisfaction is the leadership style and emotional intelligence of managers. This study aims to investigate the influence of transformational leadership styles and emotional intelligence on job satisfaction among employees of Cafe Goedang Coffee Medan, a busy coffee shop in Medan.

Background

Cafe Goedang Coffee Medan is a popular coffee shop that operates in a high-traffic area, serving a large number of customers daily. To maintain its competitive edge, the cafe demands optimal performance from its employees. However, employee job satisfaction is a critical factor that can impact business performance and sustainability. Research has shown that employees who are satisfied with their jobs are more likely to be motivated, productive, and committed to their work (Harter et al., 2002).

Methodology

This study uses an associative quantitative method involving 30 employees of Cafe Goedang Coffee Medan as a sample. Data was collected through a questionnaire that measured transformational leadership styles, emotional intelligence, and job satisfaction. The questionnaire was designed to assess the extent to which employees perceived their leaders as having transformational leadership styles and emotional intelligence. The data was analyzed using multiple regression with a significance level of 5%.

Results

The results of this study show that both transformational leadership styles and emotional intelligence have a positive and significant effect on employee job satisfaction. The F-count value was greater than the F-table, indicating that the model was significant. The t-count value was also greater than the t-table, indicating that the coefficients of the model were significant.

More specifically, the transformational leadership style, which is marked by a clear vision, inspiration, and support for employees, contributes greatly to job satisfaction. Employees who perceive their leaders as having transformational leadership styles tend to feel more valued, motivated, and have a sense of belonging to their work. This is consistent with previous research that has shown that transformational leadership styles are positively related to employee job satisfaction (Bass, 1985).

Likewise, emotional intelligence, which includes self-awareness, emotional management, and empathy, also has a significant influence on employee job satisfaction. Employees who have leaders with high emotional intelligence tend to feel more supported, motivated, and have a sense of belonging to their work. This is consistent with previous research that has shown that emotional intelligence is positively related to employee job satisfaction (Goleman, 1995).

Discussion

This study found that the style of leadership and emotional intelligence was able to explain 43.8% of the total employee job satisfaction. This suggests that the two factors have a vital role in building a positive work environment and triggering satisfaction among employees. The findings of this study have important implications for Cafe Goedang Coffee Medan and other organizations that seek to improve employee job satisfaction.
