The increase in the number of foreign literary texts published in Indonesia, especially from countries such as Britain, America, and Japan, shows that interest in international literature is getting higher. However, one problem that often occurs is the number of Japanese literary texts translated from English, not directly from Japanese. This is caused by the lack of specific translation studies on Japanese, so that more precise translation becomes difficult. Translation from English into Indonesian often causes the loss of original message accuracy. When this translation process occurs, the nuances of Japanese culture that should be maintained are actually distorted. This has the potential to cause lack of understanding or misinterpretation by Indonesian readers.

Constraints arise when the translator must translate the element of personification, because often sentences that contain personifications in one language cannot be well translated into other languages without losing their original meaning or beauty.

Raising this issue, this research focuses on translating the Personification Majas from Japanese into Indonesian, especially in the novel "1Q84" by Murakami Haruki which is translated by Ribeka OTA. Of the total 12 sentences containing the personification of personification, which is divided into three categories (animals, natural phenomena, and celestial bodies), most sentences still maintain their personification elements in translations to Indonesian. From the results of the analysis, 11 sentences were successfully translated as a personification, while one sentence experienced a shift into a simile majas.

This procedure helps in achieving the independence of the meaning between the source text (Japanese) and the target text (Indonesian).
