The Influence of Counseling with the Lecture Method Accompanied by a Media Leaflet on Changes in Maternal Behavior in the Provision of Basic Immunization
Introduction
Basic immunization is a crucial effort to protect children from various dangerous diseases. However, the coverage of complete basic immunization in Labuhan Regency is still relatively low, only reaching 38.1%. This is a serious concern, as immunization is an important aspect of public health. To increase the scope of immunization, it is necessary to make efforts to change behavior to parents, especially mothers, in providing complete basic immunization to toddlers. This study aimed to examine the effect of counseling by lecture method accompanied by media leaflets on changes in the behavior of mothers in the provision of basic immunization.
Background
The importance of immunization cannot be overstated. Immunization is a proven method to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, which can have severe consequences, including death. However, despite its importance, the coverage of complete basic immunization in Labuhan Regency is still relatively low. This is a concern, as it may lead to the spread of diseases and put the health of children at risk. To address this issue, it is necessary to make efforts to change behavior to parents, especially mothers, in providing complete basic immunization to toddlers.
Methodology
This study was conducted at the Teluk Sentosa Health Center, Labuhanbatu Regency, using a Quasi Experiment Design with a non-Equivalent Control Group design. There are three groups: two intervention groups given different treatment (lecture methods and lecture methods accompanied by leaflets) and one control group. The research population is all third trimester pregnant women (137 people), with a sample of 75 people. The study aimed to examine the effect of counseling by lecture method accompanied by media leaflets on changes in the behavior of mothers in the provision of basic immunization.
Results
The results showed that the two methods of counseling, lectures and lectures accompanied by leaflets, were proven effective in increasing knowledge (p <0.001) and attitudes (p <0.001) mothers about basic immunization. However, the lecture method accompanied by leaflets is more effective in increasing knowledge (p = 0.023) compared to ordinary lecture methods or control groups. This suggests that the use of leaflet media as a complement to the lecture method is able to provide information that is more easily understood and remembered by pregnant women.

Increasing the scope of basic immunization in Labuhan Regency, and throughout Indonesia, is a shared responsibility. Collaboration is needed between health workers, local governments, and the community to build awareness and increase knowledge about the importance of immunization.
